The Embassy was saddened to learn of the train disaster and tragic loss of life in Hualien last Friday and extends heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Taiwan. Whilst it is an immense relief that no Saint Lucians were involved in this fatal accident, we pray for its many victims and their families, and for the continued safety of the traveling public. Upon learning of the tragedy, our Prime Minister, the Honourable Allen Michael Chastanet, immediately conveyed the following message, via the Embassy, to President Tsai Ing-Wen.

"On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, I extend profound sympathy and condolences to President Tsai Ing Wen, the Government and people of Taiwan and most especially to the victims of the tragic train accident in Hualien that left 50 persons dead and over 146 injured. At this time of great sadness, please be assured of our support and prayers for Taiwan, for the victims and for the families of the bereaved".
