Ambassador of Saint Lucia to Taiwan Conferred with the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon

On behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu yesterday conferred on Saint Lucia’s outgoing Ambassador of Saint Lucia to Taiwan Conferred with Brilliant Star of Grand Cordon Ambassador, H.E. Edwin Laurent, the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon.
The award is in recognition of the Ambassador’s work and outstanding contribution to deepening the relations between the two countries during his tenure in Taiwan.
Witnessing the ceremony were government Ministers and officials, members of the diplomatic corps, leading representatives of Taiwan's business and academic communities and civil society organizations, Embassy staff and several Saint Lucian nationals.
According to Minister Wu, this was the largest attendance at a ceremony for a departing Ambassador that he had ever seen during his time at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Laurent expressed his deep gratitude for the award and expressed the hope that his contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Saint Lucia and Taiwan will be lasting.
The Ambassador thanked the representatives from the Government, business, and academic communities for their support during his term in office. He then went on to express confidence, as he prepares to pass on the baton, that they would support his successor, Dr. Robert Lewis, just as they had backed him.
The Ambassador is expected to depart Taiwan later this week and Second Secretary, Ms. Bernise Springer will serve as Charge d’Affaires until the new Ambassador takes over.
